Buhler integrates rice milling and optical sorting business units

22.10.2007 Buhler’s integration of its Rice Milling business unit with its Sortex optical sorting division creates an even stronger solution provider in the rice processing sector. It promises more efficient and cost effective sales and marketing support and an unmatched level of customer service. The new business unit is managed from Buhler’s London base by Hamid Kefayati, who was formerly Technical Director at Buhler Sortex. As Business Unit Manager, Rice Milling, he will report to Buhler Sortex Managing Director Bruno Kilshaw.

Announcing the new organisational structure, Kilshaw said that its logic was inescapable. “For many years each business unit has targeted the same audience. Now that we have formally brought them together we shall be able to benefit from the synergies that will be delivered in every aspect of the business from R&D to customer care.

“Buhler’s Rice Milling activities in Braunschweig will now focus on its worldwide plant business, excluding India, China and South East Asia, where local Buhler organisations will maintain their own teams and resources.”

Kilshaw is confident that Buhler is poised to extend its influence in the rice processing sector. “Quite apart from the efficiencies the organisational changes will bring, Hamid’s appointment will ensure dynamic leadership of the newly merged units. In 2003 Hamid became Manufacturing Director of Buhler Sortex following his project management of the Z machine – the most successful in our history. The changes he initiated then made a massive contribution to our productivity and efficiency. In his role as Technical Director, which he assumed in 2005, he has been an outstanding agent of change.”

Change is certainly in the air at Buhler Sortex as it re-defines its aspirations and sets increasingly ambitious targets from its new London base.
