Pioneering technological innovation in the Brazilian milling industry

Moinho Globo

Driven by four generations of the Venturelli family’s pioneering spirit and commitment to innovation, Moinho Globo has become an undisputed benchmark in the Brazilian milling sector. Founded 71 years ago in Sertanópolis (Paraná State) by Ciro Venturelli, the company has grown consistently by combining tradition, excellence and strategic vision. Today, it operates three milling diagrams with a combined daily capacity of 1,000 tons, serving 11 states with a portfolio of nearly 100 products under the Globo and Famiglia Venturelli brands. With annual sales exceeding BRL 500 million and approximately 700 direct and indirect jobs, Moinho Globo stands out for its industrial strength and solid market presence.

Its plant, one of the most modern in the country, is fully equipped with Bühler’s solutions. The combination of cutting-edge technology, advanced automation, and Industry 4.0 practices has positioned Moinho Globo as a key player in Paraná State’s milling hub, one of the most important in Brazil.

State-of-the-Art engineering and innovative technology

The partnership between Moinho Globo and Bühler dates back to the 1960s, when the mill still operated downtown. Even at that time, Bühler machines—especially plansifters—already delivered high performance and reliability. “Bühler’s diagram outperformed all others. I grew up hearing my father say it was the best solution for our mill,” recalls Paloma Venturelli, President of Moinho Globo.

A decisive milestone came in 2017 with the move to the new headquarters, designed to house three milling diagrams. Together with the Moinho Globo’s team, Bühler developed the entire concept and implementation of the unit, supported by a multidisciplinary local team of engineers, technicians and automation specialists. The fully customized 3D project optimized flow, layout, and ensured maximum synergy between equipment, automation and operations.

Initially, the plant was equipped with two 300 t/24h diagrams, with space reserved for a third line—installed in 2024 with a capacity of 400 t/24h, reaching 1,000 tons per day. “Our dream was always to have 100% Bühler solutions. The great advantage is the tailor-made project, in line with our needs,” emphasizes Paloma. She also highlights Bühler’s active listening, consultative approach, and long-term vision—values that resonate strongly with the family’s outlook for the future.

Maico Oliveira, Bühler’s Sales Manager, points out that the company delivers significant performance gains, with technical extraction and yields up to 3% higher than competitors. “Our multidisciplinary methodology integrates engineering, automation and sales to optimize productivity, ensure consistent quality and promote sustainability. With continuous monitoring and automatic adjustments, we deliver tangible results to Moinho Globo.” This efficiency results from the combination of expertise, high-precision equipment and advanced systems, which ensure strict control, standardization and high performance.

For Claudio Gonçalves, Moinho Globo’s Industrial Manager for 27 years, the plant’s expansion from 1,500 m² to 4,500 m² was more than just an increase in space; it brought a complete transformation in layout, operational capacity and technology, making the mill more efficient and capable of processing both domestic and imported wheat with excellence.

Bühler’s technology and team were crucial from the design phase. We participated in training courses and visited advanced European mills, gaining valuable insights. By implementing high-performance plansifters, modern roller mills, and SORTEX optical sorters, we significantly improved process quality, efficiency and precision. These advancements greatly enhanced the mill’s performance

Sustainable advantages

Sustainability is one of the core pillars of Moinho Globo. It is embedded in the mill’s values and reflected across multiple fronts: environmental, social, and business sustainability. The company has recently achieved ISO 14001 certification.

According to Claudio Gonçalves, many of the Green Manufacturing concepts introduced by Bühler—such as reducing forklift routes, minimizing waiting times, and using materials more efficiently—have been applied at the mill, making the plant significantly more sustainable.

“Our building features a thermoacoustic design and is likely the first of this size in Brazil with such a system. The mill’s energy and input consumption are below average. We are migrating our entire forklift fleet to electric models. Even with the previous gas-powered versions, we had already reduced consumption thanks to the concepts we implemented,” adds Claudio.

Advanced automation: the future of milling

Automation has become a strategic pillar for Moinho Globo, which has been operating with Bühler software since 2017. In 2024, the transition from WinCos to Mercury MES (Manufacturing Execution System) marked a major leap in production control. “Mercury MES monitors the entire operation in real time—from raw material to shipment—and its native integration with our ERP makes planning and analysis faster and more dependable,” explains Claudio Gonçalves.

Two key milestones mark this trajectory, according to the company’s manager: the transition from the downtown plant to the new mill, which provided a significant gain in productivity and throughput, reduced downtime and increased extraction rate; and the implementation of Mercury MES, which represented another leap forward, with faster tasks, fewer transfer failures, greater safety and less rework. “And from a technical standpoint, the milling performance is excellent,” he added.

The impacts of such improvements are also reflected in Moinho Globo’s results, as highlighted by Paloma Venturelli: “The difference since 2017 is clear. We experienced a strong increase in revenue and in our customer base. Today, we lead the retail market in the interior of São Paulo State, growing steadily at around 10% per year”.

Strategic alliance and future plans

The partnership between the two companies, consolidated over decades and marked by Bühler’s involvement in every stage of the new diagram—from the design of the building and machinery to the planning of wheat intake and the most efficient solutions for blending different types of flour—culminated in the delivery of a fully customized solution, aligned with the specific needs of Moinho Globo, with agile technical support and efficient after-sales service. The continuity of this relationship keeps strengthening the company’s expansion and modernization strategy, enabling it to anticipate obstacles and promote continuous improvement.

“We faced many challenges, always with Bühler’s support: from upgrades in the old mill to the integration of the new diagram. Today, our milling is modern, and the next step is to extend this standard to all areas of the company. The relationship we have with the entire team is fundamental. Any demand is addressed quickly, and that deserves recognition,” says Claudio Gonçalves.

Future plans prioritize sustainable growth, with phased planning, result of the joint work of the two companies, according to Paloma Venturelli. “We are investing more and more in automation to maintain the high quality standard and optimize production. We are focused on growth, on building a new unit that could also be 100% Bühler".

Moinho Globo is mapping out its next steps with the implementation of Bühler’s innovative flour analysis system, Color Loop, scheduled for 2026, along with the construction of a new plant. “The next challenge is to extend this modern, high-technology standard to all areas of the company. Working with Bühler allows us to grow in a safe and well-planned way. We are proud of the progress we have achieved and of the customized plant that has driven our growth. Working together for sustainable growth makes all the difference for the business,” concludes the president of Moinho Globo.
