Check out three inspiring stories from Bühler colleagues and locations in Denmark, Indonesia, and Morocco.

Denmark

A milestone in Bühler’s development

Future-ready setup for our biscuit business and the SAS in the Nordics 🎞️

With the relocation of our biscuit business and Nordic organization to modern offices in Copenhagen, an optimized production footprint, and the renaming from Haas Meincke A/S to Bühler Denmark A/S, we opened a new, future-ready chapter.

Bianca Richle

Haas Meincke A/S, which became part of Bühler in 2018 through the acquisition of the Haas Group, specializes in equipment and process technologies for biscuits and crackers. Bühler, building on the founders' innovative modular biscuit production design from 70 years ago, continues to lead the global biscuit segment with its advanced, easily shipped and assembled technology.

155 colleagues and guests attended the grand opening of our new office in Copenhagen.

Here are the four cornerstones of the new setup

  • Moving to modern offices: Both the Biscuit BU and Nordics SAS are relocating to new, welcoming office spaces with open meeting zones. The 20 SAS employees previously based in Malmö, Sweden, will be based in Copenhagen, Denmark. This move creates a Bühler powerhouse in Northern Europe with a combined workforce of around 240 people.
  • Optimization of production: Previously, the ovens for biscuit and cracker lines were produced at two adjacent locations in Roedkaersbro, Denmark, and the upstream equipment in Copenhagen. It was therefore decided to consolidate and enhance the facilities for oven production in Roedkaersbro. Meanwhile, the production of upstream equipment is being relocated from Copenhagen to Leobendorf near Vienna, Austria, to capitalize on its state-of-the-art production facilities while maximizing site capabilities.

  • Completion of integration into the Bühler Group: Incorporated into the Bühler Group in 2018, the biscuit business is now fully integrated into the portfolio. This includes branding the premises, introducing the Bühler SAP system, and renaming all legal entities to Bühler Denmark A/S.
  • The Biscuit Application & Training Center, where our customers can test and scale recipes and processes for innovative new biscuit and cracker products as well as new electric ovens, will remain located immediately close to the new offices.

Indonesia

Proximity to a larger customer base

Bühler Indonesia’s new service station in Tangerang harnesses synergies

The inauguration of Bühler Indonesia’s (BJKT) new service station in Tangerang on December 1, 2023, consolidated three essential functions – a rolls and dies service station, a trial center for chocolate, coffee and optical sorting, and a warehouse for parts and single machines – and marked the conclusion of a restructuring of our service operations in 2023.

The opening in December served as an opportunity to bring together all BJKT colleagues, fostering engagement and a deeper understanding of the business. This immersive experience, with guided tours of the new service station, allowed team members to gain insights from their peers about the roll refluting process, learn the importance of effective inventory management, and acquaint themselves with our latest advancements in chocolate, coffee, and optical sorting machinery.

The inauguration represents the culmination of a comprehensive restructuring of our service operations in BJKT throughout 2023. In alignment with the Horizon25 strategy, the decision was made to close the auxiliary fabrication workshop in favor of third-party procurement, relocate roll and die services from east to west Java, consolidate stock locations for parts and single machines, and discontinue the Cocoa Application Center and replace it with up-to-date testing machines for chocolate, coffee, and optical sorting.

Creating proximity to customers and employees

The relocation of the service station (previously in Gempol, Jawa Timur) and roll and die services from east to west Java allow proximity to a larger customer base as well as to our headquarters in Jakarta. Setting up the warehouse in one location consolidates the location of spare parts and SMB (Single Machine Business) and meets customer expectations related to availability. It also means a 50% reduction in inventory value and operational costs for local service operations.

The trial center offers our customers in south-east Asia and Australia a range of services, training, equipment trials, and analysis, in addition to process and product development for cocoa, chocolate, coffee, and flour. Customers can test equipment, refine the development of their products, and receive training in automation and cocoa, chocolate, and milling solutions.

Our new service station brings together both operational and sales objectives, in line with our Horizon25 strategy. We have right-sized our parts and machine inventory, reducing our net working capital and operating expenditure. Bringing our service station and more trial machines closer to our customers has already unlocked new growth opportunities.

Philippe De Meyer,
Managing Director of Bühler Indonesia

This collaborative effort harmonizes operational, financial, and customer-centric objectives, and means all our operations are now strategically located in Jakarta. These changes not only enhance operational efficiency, but also allow us to better cater to the needs of our customers and reflect Bühler’s commitment to continuous improvement and excellence.

Nurturing the next generation of industry leaders

Celebrating the third class of Bühler's Shabab Graduation Program

Three years ago, Bühler embarked on a visionary journey to nurture the next generation of industry leaders in the Maghreb region through the Shabab Graduation Program. This unique initiative was established to unlock the potential of young, ambitious graduates. Today, we're thrilled to share the accomplishments and progression of this innovative program.

Hanane Hamimach

The Shabab Program took its first steps in 2018. Starting as a two-year training pathway, it offered graduates the invaluable opportunity to blend academic theories with hands-on practical training. Our goal was to bridge the gap between educational institutions and the dynamic world of Bühler, ensuring a seamless transition from academic life to a rewarding professional career.

Stepping stones to success

As we celebrate the graduation of our third class, it’s important to highlight the milestones that have defined the Shabab Program. Soufiane El Ouarrate, a graduate from the first class of the Shabab Program, now holds the position of Lead Process Engineer. His expertise and dedication epitomize the program’s success. Meanwhile, Raja Ben Moh, who completed the second class, is commemorating her fifth year with Bühler as a Customer Service Quotation Engineer.

The latest class of Shabab graduates is adding new vigor to Bühler: El Mehdi Charafi, Oussama Ait Baassi and Jaouad Moudni are now assuming pivotal roles as Service Engineer, Process Engineer, and Automation Project Engineer.

During the two-year program, our apprentices benefited from the knowledge of our local experts and received training locally and abroad. They also participated in major client projects to deepen their skills and apply the theoretical concepts they have learned.

As we celebrate the graduation of the third class, we recognize that the Shabab Program is more than just training. It is a commitment to continuous learning and innovation. This year, our commitment to empowering young talents was further emphasized by the visits of Irene Mark-Eisenring, our CHRO (Chief Human Resources Officer), and Ganesha Murthy, our MAI-HHR (Head of Human Resources of MAI region). Their presence at the graduation ceremony signifies the value and support Bühler places on the Shabab Program and in young talents. It underscores the company’s strategic vision to not only build a robust workforce but to also become an employer of choice for aspiring professionals.
