Uzwil (Switzerland), Düsseldorf (Germany), June 23, 2015 – The Bühler Die Casting business received strong growth signals and substantial orders at the 13th International Foundry Trade Fair (GIFA) in Düsseldorf, Germany, which ended last Saturday. In total, the company got new orders and commitments worth more than CHF 40 million, to be delivered over the next three years. “The GIFA trade fair was a strong confirmation for our leading market and technology position in the aluminum die casting industry”, says Jonathan Abbis, Head of Bühler’s Business Area Die Casting. Regionally, Asia remains a key driver, which was endorsed by a large order for Bühler by the Chinese Wencan Group.
With more and more cars being manufactured globally, lightweight construction is becoming key to reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Already today, 150 kilograms of aluminum are inside an average car, with expected growth to more than 250 kilograms in 2025. Three major trends are pushing further growth: First, the automotive market is growing in general; second, car manufacturers are identifying new parts to be produced with aluminum die casting, mainly structural parts such as door frames or shock towers; and thirdly, aluminum is making its way down from full-size cars to mid-size and compact cars. “All signals for the aluminum die casting market are showing green, and we from Bühler are ready to lead this market in the growth wave”, comments Bühler’s Die Casting Head Abbis.
Whereas Bühler is leading the equipment business, the Chinese Wencan Group today is a key supplier to the automotive industy in Asia, delivering to Volkswagen and Tesla amongst others. Over the past years, Wencan has managed to become one of the leading suppliers for aluminum parts with an annual revenue of over CHF 175 million. For the new plant that Wencan is currently commissioning in Tianjin (close to Beijing) as well as their existing Nantong plant, they have now ordered equipment and services from Bühler for more than CHF 16.8 million. The new facility in Tianjin will strengthen their business for gear box housings as well as expand their production of structural parts. “With it’s leading technology, vast know-how and services, Bühler is our partner of choice to meet our ambitious business goals”, says Mr. Tang, owner of the Wencan Group.
Bühler Die Casting has been a market and technology leader for almost one century, with a current market share of around 25%. Until today, Bühler has supplied more than 7,000 die casting systems to the global market. Almost 1,000 foundries rely on Bühler every day. This success can be attributed to leading technologies, a unique geographical footprint, services ranging from system engineering to manufacturing and start-up, and a comprehensive offering of solutions ensuring maximum productivity and consistently high parts quality.
