Jet Loop Reactors

Bühler jet loop reactors use high-velocity liquid jets to create strong circulation and fine gas dispersion in a loop configuration. This delivers very high oxygen transfer rates and intensive mixing in relatively small volumes, enabling process intensification and high productivity where space and performance are critical. Jet loop systems are ideal for demanding aerobic and intensified bioprocesses.

Key benefits

High-intensity performance

Very high oxygen transfer rates (OTR) and intensive mixing for highly aerobic processes with strong oxygen demand.

Compact & scalable

Enables high productivity per unit volume in a compact footprint, scalable from pilot systems to full-scale industrial plants.

Designed for intensified bioprocessing

Suitable for high cell density fermentations and intensified production regimes, supporting batch, fed-batch, and continuous/recirculating modes.

Highlight features

Jet-driven circulation and gas dispersion

Strong mixing in a compact loop

Bühler jet loop reactors use high-velocity liquid jets to drive circulation through a loop, entraining gas and producing fine bubble dispersion. This combination provides strong, uniform mixing and excellent gas–liquid contact, achieving high oxygen transfer rates even in compact systems. Loop and nozzle designs are tailored to your target OTR, mixing intensity, and energy efficiency.

Engineered for demanding aerobic processes

Built for high throughput and high cell density

Jet loop reactors are ideal for highly aerobic fermentations where throughput and yield are key. The design supports high cell density operation and intensified production strategies, while maintaining tight control of process variables. Robust instrumentation and automation enable sophisticated process strategies, including real-time optimization and advanced control algorithms.

Hygienic execution and integrated CIP/SIP

Ready for industrial-scale, cleanable operation

Materials and surface finishes are selected for hygienic operation and robust cleanability, with options for elevated hygiene levels as required. Comprehensive CIP/SIP concepts are integrated into both loop and vessel design, ensuring effective cleaning and sterilization of all wetted components. Jet loop systems can be delivered as modular skids or integrated lines, with seamless connection to Bühler upstream/downstream systems, media prep, gas supply, and product recovery.
