Ertar Kimya, based in Çukurova, Adana, southern Turkey, is always looking for new ways to improve its insecticide, fungicide and herbicide production, whilst making its operations more sustainable. That’s why Bühler’s innovative new approach of using bead milling in pre-dispersing as well as fine-grinding was so appealing.
Traditionally, agrochemical companies use High Speed Dissolver (HSD) technology for the pre-mix, before using a bead mill for fine grinding the final product. The problem is that HSD technology generally leaves a number of larger particles in the mix. This requires larger beads in the fine grinding process to break it down, wasting a great deal of time and energy to achieve the quality the producer needs.
Using the MacroMedia pre-dispersing unit for the pre-mix achieves a much more homogenous intermediate product. Without larger particles in the mix, the fine-grinding process can use smaller beads to create a higher quality product, faster. It also uses much less energy and delivers improved sustainably.
Metin Kocak, Factory Manager at Ertar Kimya, explains:
Using Bühler’s MacroMedia pre-dispersing mill and their MicroMedia fine grinding mill together achieves a better overall quality much faster, decreasing our production times. It creates a more reliable plant with far less production shutdowns. And it has significantly cut our energy requirement.”
Metin Kocak,
Factory Manager
Kaya Aybars – Bühler’s Business Development Manager for the Middle East and Africa, explains: “The energy required for fine grinding fundamentally depends on the preparation of the pre-mix. Using the MacroMedia and MicroMedia together can increase productivity by as much as 100 percent and decrease overall energy demand by 30 percent. We call it the unbeatable duo.”
Bühler and Ertar Kimya share similar aims when it comes to sustainability. Indeed, it’s where the discussions for this innovation began.
Kaya Aybars says: “Bühler has set an ambitious target to reduce water consumption, waste and energy by 50 percent by 2030. Ertar Kimya has identified similar targets. Our MacroMedia and MicroMedia technologies are a first step in supporting them in this sustainability journey.”
Metin Kocak adds: “We chose the MacroMedia and MicroMedia solution because it also fit into our business ethos as an innovative, quality-focused company. We’re looking forward to working together with Bühler on further technological developments in the future.
