Part Cast on a Bühler Carat 105 wins an Award02/05/2016 For the seventh time, prizes were awarded for the International Aluminum Casting Competition at this year’s Euroguss trade show. A prize was awarded to DGS Druckguss Systeme s.r.o. Liberec for the switch housing of a truck transmission produced on a Bühler Carat 105. This year’s Euroguss trade show took place in Nuremburg from January 12th – 14th. With over 12,000 visitors and approximately 580 exhibitors, the event set an all-time record for visitors and exhibitors. The International Aluminum Die Casting Competition was held at the trade show. This competition has been focused on the standard high quality of aluminum die casting for years. The experts representing research and practice judged the castings based on their suitability and resource-efficient design.
The part entered by DGS Druckguss Systeme s.r.o. Liberec was a switch housing of a truck transmission that was cast on a Bühler Carat 105. The jury rated the design requirements as complex since the part can only be produced using a slide-in-slide die design. By using two squeezers of different diameters, high degrees of wall thickness that are atypical for pressure die casting are attained. In general, the experts found that the limits of application of the die casting process were fully utilized with this casting, which is why they awarded it with a third place. The DGS Druckguss Systeme AG specializes in developing and manufacturing complex light-weight components for the automobile industry. Approximately 900 employees process 14,000 tons of metal into high-quality die cast components per year in three factories located in Switzerland, the Czech Republic and in China.
