Leybold Optics: Closing of Dresden site.

Uzwil, 11/21/2013 – Bühler has decided to shut down the Dresden site of Leybold Optics after the sale of the photovoltaics business to a Chinese investor could not be completed as contractually agreed. The service business for all systems produced in Dresden will continue to be ensured. After Bühler had consolidated all activities related to photovoltaics production equipment under Leybold Optics Dresden GmbH in the first half-year of 2013, the contractually agreed second step in the sale of Leybold Optics Dresden GmbH to a Chinese group of companies could not be finalized. This investor had planned an integrated business model for the photovoltaics activities acquired up to the building of entire photovoltaic power plants.

Due to the unfavorable market prospects for production equipment in the field of thin-film photovoltaics, the Dresden-based affiliate Leybold Optics Dresden GmbH will be closed at the end of the first quarter of 2014. This measure affects some 90 employees of the Photovoltaics unit in Dresden and Alzenau. A suitable solution will be established in the course of the closure in order to maintain Customer Service.
