Bühler unveils new customer service centre in London

04/19/2013 Bühler’s global success is, in part, based on its unrivalled customer service. With the opening of a new, purpose built service centre at its optical sorting headquarters in London, it is clear that its commitment to its customers remains a guiding principle. “This is just the latest in a series of customer service centres we operate at locations around the world,” said Colin Chaffers, director of customer service and technology at Bühler’s SORTEX division. “It has been designed to enhance customers’ experience by providing the facilities they need in a welcoming, comfortable environment whether they are with us for training or to see our technology in action while testing their products.

Our new 500sq.m. centre features an applications laboratory with a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art optical sorting technology. We can demonstrate the sorting of fresh, chilled, frozen, dry and dehydrated foods. We can also sort non-foods such as plastics for the recycling industry. Rice processors will be particularly interested in seeing for themselves how well their own product samples can be sorted, with SORTEX optical sorters.

London is also the research and development headquarters for optical sorting technology, and the new facility allows the testing of new ideas and the further development of new technologies, including ever better detection of subtle colour defects and ever higher capacity sorting.”

The centre also has an applications library holding the results of all optical sorting sample trials and tests undertaken in London; a laboratory equipped to analyse customer samples and carry out research into areas such as toxins, a meeting room, a customer training centre and a relaxation area complete with TV, Wi-Fi and refreshments.

Although the centre was officially opened on 25th February, it has welcomed visitors in the preceding months. Alain Caudron, Group Engineer at Soufflet Alimentaire, one of France’s largest food groups was among them. "We’ve been a Bühler customer for years – we made our first visits to London for demonstrations and training in the 1980s. The new facilities are exceptional. Bühler’s people really are knowledgeable, helpful and welcoming – we felt like much more than guests. The training was excellent and the training room itself was superb.”

Colin Chaffers is delighted at the level of positive customer feedback. “We’re only minutes from London City Airport and close to motorway networks so it’s easy to get here and we look forward to welcoming many more visitors. We want them to feel comfortable and to look on the centre as their London base while visiting us. It’s about more than the wonderful facilities – it’s about the knowledge and expertise of our staff, which will help visitors get the most from their time with us. Our highly trained and experienced engineers, technicians and trainers are here to find the right solutions for all their optical sorting needs.”
