Acquisition of Leybold Optics ApprovedUzwil, 05/11/2012 – The acquisition of Leybold Optics by Bühler announced in early April has been approved without any restrictions by the competent anti-trust authorities. Both companies are highly satisfied by this outcome and look forward to achieving the envisioned growth targets together. The strategic acquisition of Leybold Optics by Bühler is a significant step on the road to expanding the Advanced Materials division into the field of equipment for manufacturing of functional layers. Thanks to global trends, these promise a highly attractive growth potential. The new acquisition supplements the existing business units Grinding & Dispersion (solutions for preparing printing inks, electronic materials, and fine chemicals) and Nanotechnology (processing of nanoparticles) in an ideal way in terms of technology and market access. Leybold Optics will be integrated as a new business unit in the Advanced Materials division and continue to be headed by the existing management. Leybold Optics’ association with Bühler offers it attractive prospects of actively sharing growth and taking advantage of the benefits of the global Bühler platform.
The merger offers benefits in many respects. For example, the know-how and the product portfolio of Bühler and Leybold Optics complement each other along the value chain of functional layers. In addition, the bundling of the competencies of Bühler and Leybold Optics creates a large pool of expertise and experience that can be utilized for developing innovative customer solutions.
Bühler is a global leader in the field of process engineering, especially production technologies and services for producing foods and advanced materials. Bühler operates in over 140 countries and has a global payroll of about 8800. In fiscal 2011, the Group generated sales revenues (turnover) of CHF 2131 million.
