A huge success: The 100th Carat has been sold10/03/2011 The Bühler Carat has turned out to be a real diamond. Already in July the hundredth die casting machine of that model was sold. One Carat 440 Compact was sold to the German car manufacturer, Volkswagen. Bühler has once again proven to be the leader in die casting technology: Volkswagen is very pleased with the results they achieved with the Carat Model 440 Compact 2-platen die casting system and has decided to purchase an additional Carat 440 Compact. Karsten Bätzing, Manager of the “Phaeton door” VW project summed it up this way: “The system delivered high-quality complex structural components virtually at the push of a button. It produced perfect high-quality parts starting already with the fifth shot.”
Thanks to the Bühler Carat 440 Compact, VW is now able to meet the increasing demand for light-weight components in its components factory in Baunatal (Kassel) – Europe’s largest aluminum die casting plant. The high degree of quality combined with improved overall equipment efficiency (OEE), i.e. availability, quality and performance of the machine, was enough to convince the car manufacturer in Wolfsburg.
The Carat was put to the acid test by VW with the Phaeton door, testing shots and castings. Europe’s largest car manufacturer wants to use lightweight construction technology consistently in order to reduce the CO2 emissions of its automobiles. They also want to cast structural components for car bodies and chassis over the long term. The Carat model 440 will be shipped to Volkswagen AG at the end of May 2012 with an inauguration celebration planned for June.
