Industry solutions for the vacuum thin-film coating of three-dimensional parts

Bühler Leybold Optics provides machinery and vacuum coating processes for 3D parts which are used in the automotive, interior lighting, 3C (computer, communication, consumer-electronics) and cosmetics packaging industry. Examples are car head and rear lights, automotive mirrors, interior lighting, mobile-phone housings, mobile-phone displays and packaging used in the cosmetics industry. Coated three-dimensional parts are typically made of plastic (injection molded), glass or metal.

The Bühler Leybold Optics vacuum coaters CompactMet, Atalanta, DynaMet 4V, DynaLine and the new DynaJet provide coating solutions even for complex injection-molded parts. The coatings can serve both functional and decorative purposes. Typical examples of functional coatings are reflective coatings for car head and rear lights and interior lighting as well as hydrophobic coatings (lotus effect) for mobile-phone displays and mobile-phone housings. Coatings used for decorative effects are commonly found in cosmetics packaging, such as lipstick closures.

The Bühler Leybold Optics applications portfolio
The portfolio of applications includes sputtering and thermal evaporation of reflective and decorative metal layers with a top coat for corrosion protection applied by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) . Further applications are color coating via reactive magnetron sputtering, surface engineering of transparent layers, such as wipe-resistant layers and easy-to-clean layers (with a lotus effect), layer stacks for automotive mirrors and silver layer stacks for highest reflectance.
