Material Properties of Zinc Oxide
Macroscopic ZnO is a well-known additive used in the manufacture of rubber tires. At a more personal level, ZnO is often used in wound healing ointments. ZnO is also applied as an additive for ferrites to control their material characteristics. ZnO is a broad-spectrum absorber of both UVA and UVB. If the particle size is sufficiently small, it will therefore be possible to incorporate this functionality in products such as suntan lotions, decorative coatings, or packaging materials without appreciably reducing transparency. As the refractive index of n-ZnO is lower than that of n-TiO2, dispersions produced with n-ZnO will be more forgiving than those made with n-TiO2. In addition, n-ZnO is much less active photocatalytically than n-TiO2, eliminating the need in most applications for coating the n-ZnO. In all, n-ZnO offers a versatile platform for product innovations. Why not speak with Buhler PARTEC to develop the full functionality of your product formula?
