Silo (elevator) equipment

Cleaning
Before bulk materials are stored in intermediate silos, they are usually cleaned. Cleaning may have a positive impact on the storage capabilities. At the same time, the quality of further processing is significantly improved.
To separate ferrous particles, magnetic separators are used. Coarse foreign objects such as strings, pieces of wood, and similar matter are removed by drum sieves. High-capacity cleaners eliminate low-density impurities and dust as well as coarse impurities and fine, high-density impurities (sand) and shriveled grains.

Weighing

For checking the weight of bulk materials, fully electronic weighing systems are applied. They transmit the measured data directly to master process control systems and/or print them out locally.

Storage

After reception (intake), cleaning, and weighing, the bulk material is transferred by chain conveyors to the storage silos. The material is fed to the individual silos through outlet gates or slides.

Storage silo equipment

Material storage and discharge is controlled by material level probes installed at different levels. The temperature of the materials is continuously monitored by temperature probes to ensure that certain material temperatures are not exceeded. Overpressure and underpressure valves ensure that the positive and negative silo design pressures are not exceeded. In order to prevent spoilage of the materials during storage, measures such as discharge, turning-over (into a different silo), or cooling (silo ventilation) may be taken. To limit pest infestation, different fumigation methods are applied.

Discharge
For storage silo discharge, outlet slide gates and possibly special dischargers such as sweep augers or chain conveyors are used, depending on the specific design.

Dust control

Efficient dust control of machinery and devices by bag (sleeve) filters ensures maximum cleanliness in plants, which is a preventive measure against dust explosions.
