DCL Laichingen
The Die Casting Center Laichingen (DCL) is a joint facility set up by BÜHLER Druckguss AG and die-maker Werkzeugbau SCHAUFLER GmbH & Co. from Laichingen, Germany. It acts as a service provider for foundries, developers, and end customers using die cast components.
The Die Casting Center Laichingen has been especially set up for the development and sample casting of large and complex parts. Such die cast components include, for example, engine blocks, large-area aspiration systems, or structural parts. It is a sister institution of the Technology Center operated by Bühler Druckguss AG in Uzwil, which offers a range of services similar to those of the Die Casting Center Laichingen. Its emphasis is on dies with a weight up to 12 metric tons. Both Centers cooperate closely.
Werkzeugbau Schaufler GmbH & Co.
Also involved in the DCL is die-maker Werkzeugbau Schaufler GmbH & Co. The company with a payroll of 130 specializes in die casting dies and works exclusively for the automotive industry and its suppliers.
Schaufler dies with a weight up to 35 metric tons are applied primarily for manufacturing switch-over induction systems, gearboxes, structural and body components.
In addition, thixo-casting dies are produced for making highly stressed chassis components.
Since 1997, the company has been using the simulation program “Flow 3D” for die filling and metal solidification simulations plus “Ideas” for FEM calculations. Since 1999, dies have been used for sample casting in the company’s in-house engineering laboratory on a Buhler die casting machine. Casting experience has had a significant impact on die specification and the heat balance design of Schaufler dies.
